It's important to take precautions to make sure you and your car survive the summer heat. Just a little preparation can mean the difference between a bad day out and a pleasant summer drive. Here are a few tried-and-true tips towards surviving a hot California summer: 

1.  Stay hydrated! Make sure to drink plenty of fluids, especially water. 

2.  Dress appropriately for the weather. Wear light colors and loose-fitting clothes to help stay cool. Don’t forget sunscreen and shades if you’re going to be out in the sun.

3. Park in the shade whenever possible. The sun can raise the temperature inside your car by 20 degrees in just 10 minutes! Get in the mindset of looking for the shady spots in the places you visit most often, and knowing the best times to get some cover.

4. Have a plan for when you can’t get shade. Cracking windows and employing a sunscreen for your front window screen can help keep heat from embedding into your car’s interior.

5.  Keep your car well-ventilated when driving. Roll down the windows or use the air conditioning to keep yourself cool while you're on the road. Be sure that your air filter is in good shape with no debris or obstructions, to make sure you are getting clean, fresh air.

6.  Make sure your car has what it needs. Check your car's coolant level and make sure the tires are properly inflated. Both of these things can help prevent your car from overheating.
